2. Appointment of a new first vice dean

The Executive Committee decided to appoint the Consul General of Peru as the new first vice dean. Ms. Liliana Cino has been in function in Los Angeles since December 7, 2011 and is the most senior career Consul General to accept this position.

The Executive Committee also exchanged ideas on recruiting new members at large. Based upon the discussion, the new Dean will contact heads of consular posts from different regions to measure their interest in joining the Executive Committee and will report back. Gender and regional equality remain at the core of our attempts.

3. Upcoming events

The Treasurer reported on his several successful contacts. He has now secured the following list of upcoming events:

Thursday March 31 World Cup Football 2020 lunch at the Consulate General of Qatar

Wednesday April 27 County of Los Angeles breakfast through lunch event at Kenneth Hahn building

Thursday May 26 Getty Center lunch event (speaker to be confirmed ?)

Thursday June 16 City Hall event with Mayor Garcetti

(Summer break)

Thursday September 22 Lunch event with Senator Robert Hertzberg (venue to be determined)

Thursday October 27 Lunch event with Ed Royce, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee at the Nixon Library

In addition to these events, Consul Lorna Johnson has reached out to CA Attorney General Kamala Harris (letter signed by Dean Zerihun Retta and sent in November 2015) but we have not received a reply yet.

Finally, some events are being readied by other organization in honour of the consular corps. The City Club plans a reception and dinner event on May 10, 2016. Orange County is considering relaunching an old tradition and organizing a consular ball in the first months of 2017.

4. Website, email addresses and rsvp

The Secretary, the Treasurer and Ron Lizardo of the Dean’s office are upgrading the current list of email addresses. This should benefit both the website and the monthly invitations. The Treasurer has developed a new tool for lunch rsvp permitting payment with Paypal and credit cards, with automated feedback on declines, confirmations and no-replies. This will greatly facilitate the management of our monthly lunch events. Ron Lizardo will be trained in managing LACC’s website, in addition to the secretary.

5. Presentation by the new Dean

Dean Celeste Jimenez made a presentation of her vision of the next years, and was warmly welcomed by the members of the Executive Committee. A draft and hand out was presented to the executive committee.
